Special Needs Task Force
Meeting Minutes
September 18, 2010
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Special Needs Task Force was conducted on September 18, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Emergency Operations Center. Members of the press were notified by email.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Diana Manly, Chair.
APPROVE MINUTES
A motion was made to approve the minutes, motion carried.
SUBCOMMITTEE WORK GROUP
- Special needs patients were categorized.
OLD BUSINESS
None.
NEW BUSINESS
- Emergency Services is working with the tax office to have information about the availability of the Special Needs database for qualified residents placed on the blank part of the tax notices.
- CERT members will be working at the Apple Festival again this year.
- Diana Manly mentioned that when we have a drill there have been some problems getting the information that we need from the database. She is willing to put all of the information from the current database on an excel spreadsheet that will be easier to use. A motion was made by Wayne Garland to put all of the information from the current Access database into an Excel spreadsheet; motion carried.
- Sherri Smith said that there was a problem during a recent power outage when the Red Cross called DHEC to open a Special Needs Shelter and the person who they called was not the correct person. There is a problem keeping the information current about who to call when a shelter is needed and who is responsible for the shelter. It was requested that Red Cross have a representative at the Special Needs meetings.
- There was some discussion about Special Medical Needs Shelters and terminology.
- The next meeting will be a work session to assign Duke Power Emergency Planning Zones to all of the current people in the database.
- It was suggested that CERT members make calls to people on the Special Needs database when we have a power outage.
The next meeting will be a work session on November 11, 2010 at 9:00 am.
